Abstract:
The research activities of the Institute of Energy Systems Technology (INES) at Offenburg University focus on investigations and development of systems for the sustainable use of energy. Six professors and their staff work in interdisciplinary projects in the far-reaching field of energy systems technology. Research and development topics include smart grids, building energy technology, battery technology, photovoltaics, energy economics, and electromobility. The institute has an extensive research lab infrastructure including a three-phase microgrid with photovoltaics, wind power, generators for heat and cold and different storage solutions. This talk will give insight in selected research activities with a special focus on control applications, where diverse mathematical methods like model-predictive control (MPC) or artificial neural networks (ANN) are already used or could be explored in the future.
