Abstract: Electric vehicles are a part of the solution to reduce global CO2 emissions. Charging management systems have the potential to make the charging processes of electric vehicles more sustainable and less costly. The presented work aims to build such a charging management system that computes optimized charging schedules for multiple vehicles simultaneously connected to one system. For this purpose, a two-stage MPC algorithm was developed. The first stage is an algorithm computing charging schedules for a long horizon, which neglects the minimum charging power constraint to be more efficient. The second algorithm uses heuristics to convert the precomputed charging schedules into applicable schedules for a short horizon considering the minimum charging power. Tests show that the algorithm can efficiently compute charging schedules even for a large number of vehicles.
