In this talk we will first revisit some basic but useful knowledge about ellipsoids, such as different definitions via shape matrices, measures of their size, and basic algebraic operations, as well as their role in multivariate normal distributions. We will then see the use of ellipsoids in the description of uncertain dynamical systems, and derive a formulation for approximate robust nonlinear optimal control based on ellipsoidal tubes.
